If your home contains lead-based paint, we recommend the following steps:
- Contain lead dust hazards by regular weekly cleaning of horizontal surfaces with Ledizolv to stop lead dust hazards from building up until such time as you can do more permanent lead remediation.
- Work with a certified lead abatement or remediation contractor, or do your own remediation to:
- Remove the lead-based paint at least from friction surfaces (door and window jambs) and any places where the paint is significantly degraded from the home
- Cover the lead-based paint via encapsulation or enclosure
- Control the dust by repairing damaged painted surfaces
It is important to consult with a trained professional when considering which method is best for your specific situation. Ledizolv can be used to manage and reduce the lead dust present in your house. Ledizolv can be used for daily and final clean-up during a lead remediation or abatement project.
Instructions for use (residential):
The best way to use Ledizolv depends on what surfaces you are cleaning and what cleaning equipment you have available.
In all cases, make a 2% Ledizolv solution (2 bottle capfuls or 4 teaspoons in a quart of water, 1/3 cup in a gallon of water, or 1 cup in 3 gallons of water). Use that dilute Ledizolv solution to clean with your desired cleaning method following the steps below.
Begin cleaning at one end of the room and work your way to the doorway. Clean and rinse all walls, window components, vents, baseboards, floors, other surfaces and crevices. Clean and rinse a small area at a time before doing next area. Avoid re-contaminating clean areas while working.
- Wear rubber gloves. Clean and remove all toys, rugs and belongings from the room. Use a HEPA vacuum (High Efficiency Particle Air Filter) to vacuum all surfaces prior to cleaning.
- Clean any grossly soiled surfaces with a general purpose cleaner to expose the lead contaminated surfaces for cleaning.
- Choose a cleaning method:
- Spray Bottle: Spray 2% Ledizolv solution on surface and wipe off with rag or mop. Rinse rag in clean water bucket periodically. Dispose of rinse water and rags when dirty and continue cleaning with fresh rinse water and rags as needed.
- Disposable Rags or Mops: Use about 1 rag for every 200 sq. ft or 1 mop for every 1,000 sq. ft
- Two buckets: One with Ledizolv solution and one with clean rinse water. Wet rag or mop in Ledizolv solution, wipe down surface until clean, folding rag to expose fresh surfaces. Rinse rag or mop in clean water then dip in Ledizolv solution periodically. Change and dispose of rinse water and rags when dirty.
- Perform a final rinse with clean water and scrub with clean rag/mop.
For porous and other hard-to-clean surfaces: Use hot water to mix the 2% solution. Scrub surfaces. Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the solution to soak before rinsing. Pre-clean very dirty areas with a heavy duty or degreasing detergent. For lead dust control, surfaces should be smooth and cleanable. Inspect and re-clean surfaces frequently.
